La “Candidate List”, elenco delle sostanze che possono danneggiare le persone o l’ambiente, contiene un numero molto elevato di sostanze chimiche pericolose, anche chiamate SVHC (Substance of Very High Concern).
Dall’ultimo aggiornamento in data 10 Giugno 2022 ne conta 224.
Da pochi mesi è stato vietato l’uso del N-(hydroxymethyl)acrylamide, tranne previa autorizzazione della commissione europea. Possibile causa di cancro o difetti genetici, è utilizzato nei polimeri e nella produzione di altri prodotti chimici e tessili, oltre che in pelli e pellicce.
Quali sono ora le conseguenze?
Secondo il regolamento REACH se un prodotto contiene una sostanza soggetta a restrizioni, il produttore o l’importatore dell’articolo ha l’obbligo di verificare se la concentrazione della sostanza è superiore allo 0,1%; in caso positivo bisogna fornire ai clienti e ai consumatori informazioni sufficienti per l’utilizzo del prodotto in modo sicuro e la presenza di una tale sostanza deve essere notificata all’ECHA attraverso la banca dati SCIP.
Nel caso della nuova sostanza aggiunta, il N-(hydroxymethyl)acrylamide, la notifica della sua presenza va presentata all’ECHA entro 6 mesi dalla data in cui è stato incluso all’elenco.
Tenere sotto controllo gli aggiornamenti continui della candidate list è importante!

REACH – A NEW SUBSTANCES ADDED IN THE CANDIDATE LIST
The Candidate List, a list of substances that can harm people and the environment, counts a hight number of hazardous chemicals, also called SVHC (Substances of Very Hight Concern).
Following the last update, on 10 June 2022, the list counts 224 substances.
From a few months the use of the N-(hydroxymethyl)acrylamide has been banned, unless authorised by the European Union. Being a possible cause of cancer or birth defects, it is used in polymers and in the production of other chemical and textile products, as well as in hides and furs.
What are the consequences now?
According to REACH regulation, if a product has a restricted substance, the producer or importer of the product has the obligation to verify if the quantity of the substances is more than 0,1%; if so, they must provide costumers and consumers enough information for a safe use of the product and the presence of restricted substances must be notified to ECHA through the SCIP database.
In the case of the new added substance, the N-(hydroxymethyl)acrylamide, the notification of its presence must be submitted to ECHA within 6 months from the date since when it was included in the list.
It’s important to keep under control the continuous updates of the candidate list!
